Alabama starting linebacker Deontae Lawson told the Crimson Tide Sports Network on Thursday that he will miss all of spring practice while he rehabs the knee injury he suffered during the 2024 season.

The junior from Mobile has been a big part of the Alabama defense the past 3 seasons, but he’ll get a delayed start on the 2025 season after his 2024 season was cut short with the injury he suffered in the crushing November loss at Oklahoma.

“I’ll definitely try to stay around as much as I can, obviously. But, yeah, before I’m active, probably fall camp,” Lawson told the CTSN.

Lawson suffered his season-ending, lower-extremity injury against the Sooners on Nov. 23. Lawson missed Alabama’s victory against Auburn in the regular-season finale and its season-ending loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Lawson said he’s walking now and is still progressing through rehab while participating in modified workouts.

Lawson piled up 76 tackles in 2024 despite not playing the entire season, including 36 solo tackles. He added 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery. Lawson also had his first career interception as well as 4 passes defended.

He’ll once again be a big part of the Crimson Tide defense in 2025, but Alabama will have to get through spring practice without him.
