Alabama to No. 1? Fans, media make the case for Crimson Tide after Purdue goes down
Alabama could be No. 1 in the next AP Poll following Purdue’s loss to Northwestern on Sunday night.
The No. 3 Crimson Tide have won 4 in a row, including a pair of impressive victories this week against Florida and Auburn. Alabama nearly had enough votes to jump Houston last week, but another undefeated week vs. SEC opposition could put them into the No. 1 spot. It could also help Alabama’s case that it has a head-to-head win over the Cougars this season.
Alabama’s men’s basketball team hasn’t been No. 1 in the AP Poll since December of 2002. The Tide were at No. 1 for a pair of polls in that season — the only time they’ve reached the top of the AP Top 25 in program history.
Alabama got as high as No. 2 in the AP Poll earlier this season. That was the 1st time Alabama had been that high in the Top 25 since that same 2002-03 campaign.
As for this season, the Crimson Tide have been dominant. They’re 22-3 overall and 12-0 in the SEC. They haven’t lost a home game all season and every SEC victory has come by 8+ points.
Here’s some of the reaction from fans and media who made the case for Alabama to be No. 1 in the new AP Poll on Monday:
Down goes Purdue. I was likely going to rank Alabama No. 1 this week either way. Definitely will now.

Northwestern knocks off No. 1 Purdue. Alabama may be No. 1 (should be) when they roll into Knoxville Wednesday night.

Alabama should be No. 1 tomorrow.

Alabama should be No. 1.
Crimson Tide have been No. 1 for one single week in history of its program — way back in 2002-03.

Alabama should be No. 1. No debate needed.

There’ll be a new No. 1 in college basketball tomorrow. Really close call. If only there was a way to know who would win between Houston and Alabama — it would make the voting process much easier.

Btw, with Purdue's loss, let's talk about the *only* sports topic anyone cares about today: Alabama should be ranked No. 1 tomorrow.
Wont happen because Houston is ranked ahead of them and pollsters are dumb.
But with a head-to-head win at Houston, Bama should be No. 1 tomorrow

Alabama entered the week at No. 3 in the AP hoops poll.
No. 1 Purdue lost.
No. 2 Houston has a head-to-head loss to Bama.
Alabama should be the No. 1 ranked team in the country tomorrow.
Period.
End of story.

Alabama should be No. 1 tomorrow, just in time to lose at Tennessee

The most nauseating thing about all of this is that Nate Oats and fricking Alabama are gonna be the new No. 1. Yuck.
