Alabama WR T.J. Simmons announced that he’d be transferring from the Crimson Tide program on Sunday morning, a surprising move by the sophomore.

Simmons appeared in 12 games in 2016, primarily as a special teams player and occasionally as a wide receiver, though he didn’t record any catches.

Simmons will transfer to West Virginia, according to a post on his Twitter page:

According to the 247Sports composite, Simmons was a 3-star recruit coming out of high school in Alabama in 2016. He was the No. 58 wide receiver in the 2016 class.

He’ll have to sit out the 2017 season, but then he’ll have three years of eligibility remaining for the Mountaineers.
