Just before the College Football Playoff Committee announced its final rankings, the Associated Press announced its Top 25 and kept the University of Alabama first over Florida State, Oregon, Baylor and Ohio State.

Alabama had 27 first-place votes and Florida State 25. The overall difference in points was 1,452 to 1,436. Last week the Seminoles had more first-place votes, 29-25, but the Crimson Tide had a slight 1,426-1,423 edge.

The difference between fourth and sixth, TCU, was just eight points.

Meanwhile, the Amway Coaches Poll had the same top five, but in different order, of Alabama, Florida State, Oregon, Ohio State and Baylor.

The Crimson Tide had a 28-25 advantage in first-place votes, and 1,486-1,450 in overall points.

If the Bowl Championship Series was sill being used, the final pairing would almost certainly be Alabama vs. Florida State unless the now-defunct Harris Poll did something extreme.

Here’s how the computers had the top five:

• Jeff Sagarin: 1. Alabama, 2. TCU, 3. Oregon, 4. Ole Miss, 5. Ohio State
• Anderson & Hester: 1. Florida State, 2. Oregon, 3. Alabama, 4. Ohio State, 5. TCU
• Richard Billingsley: 1. Florida State, 2. Alabama, 3. Oregon, 4. Ohio State, 5. TCU
• Colley Matrix: 1. Florida State, 2. Alabama, 3. Ohio State, 4. Oregon, 5. TCU
• Kenneth Massey: 1. Alabama, 2. Oregon, 3. TCU, 4. Florida State, 5. Ohio State
• Dr. Peter Wolfe: 1. Florida State, 2. Alabama, 3. Oregon, 4. Ohio State, 5. TCU

The Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll by the Football Writers Association of America had a top five of: 1. Alabama, 2. Oregon, 3. Florida State, 4. Ohio State, 5. TCU.
