Austin Armstrong has not been formally announced as an Alabama hire, but he’s reportedly already on campus in Tuscaloosa.

It was reported by multiple outlets Friday that Armstrong, who spent the past 2 seasons as Southern Miss’ defensive coordinator, would be joining the Crimson Tide coaching staff in an on-field role. SEC insider Chris Low of ESPN shared an update on Armstrong Saturday.

Low shares that Armstrong will be taking “the spot vacated when Charles Kelly left for Colorado.”

Kelly was the associate defensive coordinator and safeties coach on Nick Saban’s staff. Armstrong has coached inside linebackers at Southern Miss and Louisiana. Low added that Armstrong’s position coach assignment will be determined by who Saban hires as the defensive coordinator.

Pete Golding has served as Alabama’s defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach. Friday, it was reported that Golding will be the new defensive coordinator at Ole Miss. Rebels coach Lane Kiffin tweeted ESPN’s report Saturday morning.
