As Alabama linebacker Will Anderson Jr. enters his junior year, some believe that he is the best player in college football.

One person who believes that is SEC Network analyst Roman Harper. On the SEC Network’s “SEC This Morning,” Harper was asked about what he was most confident in for the season. He brought up Anderson, which surprised his co-host.

Harper could have focused on an SEC team, but he singled out Anderson. Based on his production in 2021, Harper considered Anderson to be worthy of the Heisman Trophy.

“I am the most confident that Will Anderson is still the best player in college football,” Harper said. “He was the best player last year, too. He just didn’t play the right position or he would have won the Heisman last year.”

In that discussion, Anderson’s teammate, Bryce Young, was mentioned as possibly being the best player since he won the Heisman in 2021. Harper pointed out lack of defensive players who won the award. He believed that if Anderson played another position, he would have won the award in 2021.

For last season’s Heisman, Anderson finished in 5th place. Anderson led the nation with 17.5 sacks and won the 2021 Bronko Nagurski Trophy. With a similar 2022 season, Anderson could be widely considered as the best player in college football.
