Bill Belichick gives former Alabama LB Dont'a Hightower a new nickname after big plays in Super Bowls
Former Alabama LB Dont’a Hightower happened into a great situation when he was drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Now, seven seasons later, Hightower is the proud owner of three Super Bowl rings, and has played a big role in each win for the Patriots’ defense.
In fact, he’s been so huge in Super Bowls that, during the Patriots’ Super Bowl ring ceremony this week, coach Bill Belichick gave him a new nickname — Mr. February (via ESPN):
How long Belichick stayed at the mic, where he shared his appreciation for everyone in the room, coming across as genuine and heartfelt. That was particularly the case with how Belichick spoke of his players. For example, at one point he said something along the lines of Hightower being worthy of a “Mr. February” nickname — similar to Reggie Jackson’s “Mr. October” nickname in baseball — because of all the big plays Hightower has made in Super Bowls.
In this past Super Bowl — a win over the Los Angeles Rams — Hightower recorded two sacks and three quarterback hits.
The Patriots will be a favorite to win the Super Bowl again this coming season, so it’s possible Hightower could have a chance to once again repeat his February heroics.
