Bill O’Brien just completed his first season as Alabama’s offensive coordinator, calling plays that helped QB Bryce Young become the first Crimson Tide QB to win the Heisman Trophy.

Now, he’s a hot name in NFL coaching circles. Recent reports have had O’Brien connected to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching job and the Carolina Panthers’ offensive coordinator position.

But, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo on “NFL Now,” O’Brien isn’t expected to be heading to Jacksonville (via FootballScoop.com):

Mike Garafolo shared on NFL Now earlier today that his sources indicated that, despite Bill O’Brien being a favorite head coaching candidate for current GM Trent Baalke, O’Brien is unlikely to be the team’s choice.

There are still plenty of open head coaching positions in the NFL. We’ll see if O’Brien heads back to the pro ranks or if he ends up returning to Alabama for a second year running the Tide’s offense.
