Boo Corrigan, the College Football Playoff committee chair, explained to ESPN’s Rece Davis on Sunday how next season’s selection process will change with the Playoff expanding to 12 teams.

Corrigan, whose committee has been harshly criticized for the inclusion of one-loss Alabama at the expense of undefeated Florida State off the ACC. Corrigan is the AD at N.C. State. Corrigan said the injury to QB Jordan Travis ultimately cost FSU a spot in the playoff. FSU struggled on offense, averaging only 20 points, in its last 2 games without Travis.

Corrigan explained the current process and the continued dedication next year’s committee must have, especially after conference championship games.

Corrigan said the amount of time the committee spends below the 4th spot, or the 8th spot, is considerable.

“You’re making sure that as you have people slotted in and as the committee comes together, we have to make sure that we’re getting it right time after time,” he said. “I heard someone say earlier, instead of 4 or 5 this year, it’s going to be 11 or 12 next year, which is the case. As I leave, they’ll look at everything going into next year.”
