Boo Corrigan was asked by ESPN’s Rece Davis about one of the larger debates around the College Football Playoff: How the committee chose Ohio State at No. 4 over Alabama at No. 5.

Corrigan, the committee chair, appeared to agree with a consensus among college football fans and media that Alabama’s best wins still fell short of Ohio State’s best wins.

“I think you look at the big wins, as well as part of this and the win Ohio State has over Notre Dame, the win they have over Penn State, compare that to Alabama with the wins over Texas, Mississippi State, some other close games,” he said. “Keep in mind, the Michigan game did get away from them, it was a one-score game early in the fourth quarter, and as we looked at the total body of work that we had the committee was comfortable with Ohio State at 4 and Alabama at 5.”

The top 6 as released early Sunday afternoon was Georgia, Michigan, TCU, Ohio State, Alabama and Tennessee.
