The Alabama Crimson Tide were trying to decide whether Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa would be the starting quarterback for 2018, but an injury to Tagovailoa’s hand hampered that battle.

With a chance to take a commanding lead in the spring game, Hurts disappointed, leaving the Tide with many unanswered questions heading into the summer.

On “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Monday, ESPN analyst Booger McFarland joined fill-in host Peter Burns and said he thinks Hurts will be the Week 1 starter when all is said and done:

Hurts will obviously need to have a big summer if he wants to win the job after his spring game performance, but fans didn’t see all of what went on behind the scenes this spring.

Still, Tagovailoa is going to be the favorite to land the job when practices resume, so McFarland’s pick is somewhat surprising at this stage of the offseason.
