Bryce Young shoulders accountability for being benched by Carolina Panthers
Bryce Young received the news this week that no young quarterback in the NFL wants to hear. Reports began to break on Monday, and it has since been confirmed that the Carolina Panthers are benching the former No. 1 overall pick in favor of veteran Andy Dalton.
There’s no denying Carolina has struggled to score points and win games with Young under center, but it’s also hard to believe the QB is the entire problem for the Panthers. However, Young was not in the business of pointing fingers when he met with the media on Thursday.
At one point, Young was asked if he had been given enough time by the franchise to prove what he can do, but the former Alabama star said that is not a question for him to answer. He said pretty much every snap he’s had “hit my hands,” and it was up to him to do something positive with it.
“For the most part, every snap hit my hands, and I didn’t do enough with it, at the end of the day,” Young said. “I take accountability for that. There’s plays, there’s stuff, there’s a long list of things that I wish I was better at… I’m always going to look in the mirror.
“Circumstances are what they are — not just for me — but for everyone… If I went out there and played better and we won games, we wouldn’t be having these conversations.”
I asked Bryce Young if he thought he was given enough time by the #Panthers:

Another question involved Young’s confidence level, but the former Heisman winner says his confidence in himself has not changed with these early struggles. That’s simply part of being a competitor.
“I have confidence in myself, always have confidence in myself. It’s a day-to-day thing. At the end of the day, I’m a competitor,” described Young. “Whenever there’s a football and there’s a field out there, I have the utmost confidence in myself. It’s been great with these guys too, having teammates that I can lean on as well.
“That’s not something that’s gonna waiver. What the circumstances are, what happens, that’s up for God to decide and it’s outta my hands. But you know that feeling isn’t gonna change.”

While Young’s struggles have been highlighted in Carolina’s 2023 struggles and the 0-2 start to the season, the defense has given up 73 points in 2 games this year. We’ll see how Dalton fares and whether or not Young gets another crack at QB1 some time this season.
I bet the Panthers will regret that decision.
The Panthers are an awful organization.
That dude got screw@d getting drafted by the panthers. He gets the absolute sh!t beat out of him.
This proves once again how bad going in at the top spot in the draft can be. Carolina does not have the staff to develop talent. Would have been so much better if he’d gone to Pittsburgh, Seattle or Arizona. Would have been even better if he’d gone to a team where he could sit and learn before being thrown to the wolves.
He’s not a great QB. He had a great system around him in college that helped him look better. He’s just like AJ McCarron IMO. He’s undersized too. Even if you compare him to smaller QBs like Tua, Kyler Murray, or Russell Wilson, he’s on the smaller scale. Those other QBs at least have some bulk and speed to go with their smaller frames. I called it years ago that Tua would get beat to a pulp in the NFL because of his size and look at him now, mashed potatoes for brains. And he’s with a better organization than Young. If you’re going to be that small, you better be fast. I thought Kyler Murray would have the same fate but he appears to be a better scrambler than Tua and Young

There are many NFL QBs that a great system around them to win.
” If you’re going to be that small, you better be fast.”
Drew Brees is a future NFL HOFer and he was small and not fast.
“I thought Kyler Murray would have the same fate”
Murray has been injured several times and his NFL days are numbered. Duel threats do not have a long shelf life.
Drew Brees was one of the most accurate QBs of all time. He wasn’t fast by any means but he could put the ball on the money. Accuracy was better than Manning and Brady by a long shot. Ranked, Brees is the second most accurate QB of all time. Burrow is the only QB that leads him but it’s by a small margin in percentage but over 8000 attempts makes up the difference. The next person that’s semi-comparable is Matt Ryan who comes in at #13 all time and has 2000 less passing attempts than Brees.
We were really blessed to watch the greatest QBs of all time play weren’t we?
You’re right. Kyler has taken some licks but not to the extent of Tua. Lamar Jackson will be out of the league in the next 5 years the way he plays. Plus he slimmed up this offseason so those hits are going to do more damage as the season goes on.
Tom Brady at his peak could not turn the Panthers into winners with that O-Line.
