Former Alabama assistant Butch Jones opened up about his time with Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide during a radio interview on Wednesday morning.

Jones, who is now the head coach at Arkansas State, spent three seasons with the Crimson Tide after being fired by Tennessee.

He discussed his relationship with Saban and what it was like being apart of Alabama’s National Championship run in 2020.

“Those three years were remarkable,” Jones said on ESPNU Radio, via 247Sports. “Last year was one of the best years I’ve ever had in this profession of being a part of a national championship team. But really getting to know him as a coach and an even better person.”

Jones also touched on some of the specific things he learned from Saban and Alabama’s culture during his time in Tuscaloosa.

“The big thing is, people use the term loosely, the process and following the process but understanding the true definition of how you coach and how you teach the process and what it means,” Jones said of what he learned from Saban. “His balance overall as a head coach and all the things that are associated with that job and how he goes about his business.

“He does an incredible job of balancing everything that’s associated with being a head coach from the alumni, the donors, the media, to player development, to the former players, the coaching staff, support staff, you name it.”

Jones has a history of being successful at the Group of 5 level. He won 10+ games at both Central Michigan and Cincinnati before taking the Vols job, so he should be in a great position to thrive at Arkansas State.
