At the site of the famed steps where Rocky Balboa, America’s beloved underdog, began his journey towards fictional boxing dominance, the Cleveland Browns put together a surprisingly-promising first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

After years of draft futility, the Browns claimed former Texas A&M star Myles Garrett with the No. 1 overall pick; former Michigan swiss army knife Jabrill Peppers and former Miami tight end David Njoku.

For a team with a glaring hole at the quarterback position, and a history of taking big gambles in previous drafts, the Browns showed surprising restraint on Thursday night. None of this year’s quarterbacks are considered can’t-miss prospects, but that hasn’t stopped Cleveland in the past.

Perhaps the Browns have other plans in mind for addressing the position, however. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport tweeted Friday afternoon that Cleveland had made contact with Cincinnati in regards to Bengals quarterback AJ McCarron.

A two-time national champion with the Alabama Crimson Tide, McCarron has become a solid backup in the NFL and shown flashes of potential in limited starting opportunities.

If the Browns aren’t able to negotiate a deal for McCarron, another SEC quarterback could be on their radar. Former Tennessee star Joshua Dobbs is a player some teams believe could be a late-round gem like Dak Prescott was for the Dallas Cowboys in 2016.
