Paul Finebaum not a big fan of Steve Sarkisian taking over for Nick Saban at Alabama: Sark 'would not be my choice'
Does Steve Sarkisian taking over the Alabama program impact the Georgia game?
It does in Paul Finebaum’s mind.
The ESPN and SEC Network host was asked to share his thoughts on Sarkisian potentially taking over for Nick Saban for Saturday night’s Georgia game during a recent appearance on “First Take” this week.
“Yes. Steve Sarkisian would not be my choice to send out in the biggest game of the year,” Finebaum said. “He was average at Washington, he got fired at SC, not because of what he was going on the field, but because of what he was doing off the field. He’s not in Nick Saban’s league.”
Interestingly, Finebaum did not name one single coach on Alabama’s staff that would have made a better selection as an interim coach but his main point seems to be Sarkisian doesn’t match up with the greatest college football coach ever.
That’s real insight right there.

I think I would trust Nick Saban’s choice over Finebaums. Call me crazy.
Yeah I think I would trust Saban over Finebaum any time..I’m just curious who else on the staff Finebaum thinks should have been chosen..at least Sark has hc experience…
Sark has HC experience so that helps. I was surprised by him being the choice too. I thought Huff would get it but Saban knows what he is doing lol
come on guys the right choice is soooo obvious. Break out the trash cans and bricks. The one and only Butch Jones is the clear choice. He will make 5* champions of life out of em!!!
Call me crazy, but it may not be the worst idea. It lets all of the assistant stay in their roles. Can Sark call plays and be the HC too? Yes but there is a chance it throws him off. Jones would let everyone keep their roles and focus on that. Plus it would be an amazing story! Ha
Jones isn’t a coach he’s an annalist.
Over in LA at LB Sports, they call him finebomb. Fun to stir it up with those PAC 10 Bolsheviks.
I would think throughout a game Saban would be more involved on the defensive side of things anyway. I don’t think Saban missing is going to effect what they do or don’t do offensively, Sark probably takes care of the lion’s share on that anyway, and has zero to do with the defense. The defensive guys are going to have to make decisions now without Saban so it probably doesn’t matter who actually coaches the game as HC, both sides of the ball are probably just going to coach themselves this weekend, like they do every weekend.
Booches I think you may underestimate ole St. Nick. You may be right on the offensive side but I bet he is very involved with the D, especially after not playing anywhere close to his high standards. Bama fans know more about it than I do but I cant imagine he doesnt have his hands in a lot of the D right now, even and probably especially, during this game.
Sark can handle it. Haters gonna hate. Sark had some personal issues when he was at USC which is what led to his demise there. Everybody makes mistakes. I’m thankful we have Sark and know he will do the best he can to prepare the Tide.
