All of a sudden, Tim Tebow is rethinking his pick for Alabama vs. Georgia.

News of Nick Saban’s positive COVID test sent shockwaves through the sports world and while there remains some question whether or not Alabama’s coach will be on the sidelines Saturday night when Georgia comes to Tuscaloosa, Tebow’s reaction to the news led him to believe the matchup is even more of a toss-up.

“I think it’s bigger than people are making it out to be. I think it’s critical for this game,” Tebow said on Friday during an appearance on ESPN show First Take. “Before I heard he had tested positive, I was picking Alabama in this game. Now I’m viewing everything because it’s that big of a deal. Nick Saban isn’t just one of the best recruiters and coaches, he’s one of the best mid-game adjusters that we’ve ever seen in college football history. I got to feel and face it first-hand in back-to-back SEC Championship Games.

“No one does it as well as him. He knows when to press the pedal, he knows when to encourage guys, he knows when to make changes; like he did a few years ago in the national championship game against Georgia and Kirby Smart (by benching Jalen Hurts and inserting Tua Tagovailoa into the game). The only reason they won that game is because Saban felt the team, he knew he needed a change, he made the change, they won the national championship.”

Following those comments, Tebow was asked if Saban’s expected absence makes this a toss-up game in his mind.

“Absolutely. Georgia has the No. 1 defensive efficiency in the country and their offense is getting better. Yes, Alabama has a fantastic offense, it is No. 1 in the country in offensive efficiency,” Tebow continued. “So it’s good on good, but when something isn’t going your way, which happens, you face a lot of adversity in college football — in football in general — who is going to be able to make those changes and adjust?”

For now, that answer appears to be Steve Sarkisian.
