TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama football team dropped as expected in both major college football polls on Sunday, but remained in the top 10 following the 23-17 loss at Ole Miss.
Alabama (4-1 overall, 1-1 SEC) went from first to seventh in the Amway Coaches Poll, and from third to seventh in the Associated Press Poll.
Both polls had dramatic changes when four of the top six teams lost on Saturday, but the SEC’s West Divisions still has four in the top seven. Auburn is second in both, Ole Miss and Mississippi State are tied for third in the AP poll, but are fourth and sixth in the coaches’ poll, respectively. Texas A&M dropped to 14th on both polls and LSU fell out of the polls for the first time since 2008.
The Tigers had the second-longest active string of appearances in the AP poll, at 87, behind Alabama’s 105.
Reigning champion Florida State regained the top spot in the coaches’ poll, landing 44 of 61 first-place votes. But in the AP poll it had 35 first-place votes compared to Auburn’s 23.
With its loss, the earliest in the season since 2007, Alabama is 26-10 (.722) against the Associated Press top 25, including a 16-6 (.727) mark against the top 10 since the start of 2008.
Alabama visits Arkansas on Saturday (6 p.m. ET, ESPN).
