Dallas Turner is a virtual lock to be drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but there is plenty of question about when the standout Alabama linebacker will hear his name called, as quarterbacks and wide receivers are receiving most of the buzz for the earliest picks.

Ahead of Thursday’s Round 1, BetMGM shared data with Saturday Down South showing how certain picks and players are being bet. Turner is the most popular pick for two kinds of bets.

The Atlanta Falcons hold the No. 8 overall pick. Turner is getting the most bets for the highest percentage of the handle (money wagered) for eighth overall. He’s the favorite, and the book’s biggest liability at No. 8.

While Turner is the most popular bet to go No. 8 overall, the majority of bets for the pick are spread out over “not Turner” options, a likely reason why’s he priced at +200. Those willing to pull the trigger on Turner at No. 8 could see a $100 bet win $200 for a payout of $300.

No. 8 overall pick (BetMGM):

  • Highest Ticket%: Dallas Turner 36.0%
  • Highest Handle%: Dallas Turner 41.3%
  • Biggest Liability: Dallas Turner
  • Favorite: Dallas Turner +200

Turner is a popular option on another bet. Those who don’t want to be tied down to a specific number pick are taking Turner as the first defensive player off the board. He again sweeps BetMGM’s data of ticket, handle, favorite and liability. While the percentage of bets is just above 25%, the handle is much higher on Turner as the first defender (58.8%) than Turner at No. 8 (41.3%).

The flexibility, though, comes at a cost. To not have Turner tied to a specific team or number, he is priced at -125 as the first defensive player. It would take a $125 bet to win $100 on Turner being the first defender called in the 2024 draft.

First defensive player drafted (BetMGM):

  • Highest Ticket%: Dallas Turner 25.7%
  • Highest Handle%: Dallas Turner 58.8%
  • Biggest Liability: Dallas Turner
  • Favorite: Dallas Turner -125

If Turner is drafted at No. 8 as the first defender, some bettors may be able to cash two tickets.
