Damien Harris was not a lock to go to Alabama after all, he revealed in a recent interview, and apparently, until the last moment of his announcement, the Richmond, Kentucky native was ticketed for the Wildcats.

“I was 100 percent going to Kentucky,” Harris said. “I made the announcement at my school, it was June 9, 2015. And even my mom, she was sitting there beside me, ‘You know you still haven’t told me where you’re going.’ My bad, I’m going to Kentucky, just so you know, so you’re not surprised.”

Harris as a senior in 2018 passed up the NFL Draft to return for his senior season, and eventually totaled 3,070 career yards to rank eighth all-time in program history as he became one of just 8 backs in program history to eclipse the 3,000-yard mark.

“I don’t know why or what happened, but I just picked the Alabama hat up and put it on,” Harris said. “I’m serious, I was 100 percent planning to go to Kentucky and I just picked the Alabama hat up. I don’t know how or why. … In the moment, it was like somebody had my hand and they picked the Alabama hat up and put it on my head, and this was just meant to be, I guess.”
