Former Alabama DL Da’Shawn Hand had an admirable offseason goal: drop red meat from his diet. The Detroit Lion recently admitted to reporters, however, that he fell off the wagon after about two weeks. It’s easy to sympathize with his reason: good BBQ is too hard to pass up.

“I tried to [cut out red meat],” Hand told reporters recently, “and then I came across some ribs and that kind of killed that whole thing. But I’m going to try to. I’m going to slowly but surely get to it. … I lasted like two weeks, and then them ribs were calling my name.”

Hand shared his dieting adventures at the “Taste of the Lions” event at Ford Field in Detroit. Hopefully if Hand comes back to Tuscaloosa an Alabama reporter can get him to weigh in on whether Dreamland or Archibald’s has the better ribs.

In the clip below, he talks about wanting to take part in the event as a vendor and reminisces about cooking hamburgers in his UA dorm.
