Expectations were high for Derrick Henry coming off 2019, when the Tennessee Titans running back led the league in rushing with 1,540 yards and also scored a career-high 18 total touchdowns. But the former Alabama standout hasn’t quite picked up where he left off to begin 2020.

Through the first two games of the season, Henry has 200 yards on 56 carries (an average of 3.6 yards per carry) and has yet to get into the end zone. However, the 26-year-old back isn’t concerned about his quiet start this early in the year.

“They’ll come,” Henry told reporters this week (h/t Clint Buckley of 247Sports.com). “Sometimes things like this happen during the season where we might have a little adversity, things might not be going the way we want them to or think they should be going. But that’s just up to us fixing things, improving, watching film, seeing things we need to get better at.

“We’re not really worried about what the defense is doing, but we need to do better as a whole, individually, and then collectively as a group and that’s all we’re trying to do. Just improve. Like I said before, eventually it will all come together. We’ll get rolling the way we want to but right now, just improve on things we aren’t doing so good.”

In each of his first four NFL seasons, Henry has continually improved, which led to his huge 2019 campaign. He also helped the Titans make a surprise run through the playoffs last season, leading them to the AFC Championship Game.

Despite Henry’s slow start, Tennessee is 2-0, opening the seasons with wins over the Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars. Henry eclipsed the 100-yard mark in the opener at Denver, rushing for 116 yards, but it took him 31 carries to get there.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the former Heisman Trophy winner really get things going here soon, as he shouldn’t be kept out of the end zone for too much longer.

Henry and the Titans are set to go on the road to face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
