Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry was named October’s AFC Offensive Player of the Month, the NFL announced on Thursday.
The former Alabama star enjoyed a solid 3-game stretch as the Titans sit at 5-1 and atop the AFC South standings. In a 42-16 win over Buffalo on Oct. 13, he ran the ball 19 times for 57 yards and 2 touchdowns. He would go on to explode for 212 yards on just 22 carries, adding 2 more touchdowns in a wild 42-36 overtime win over Houston on Oct. 18. He capped the month off with a 20-carry, 75-yard performance in a loss to Pittsburgh on Oct. 25 as he added a 5th touchdown in 3 games.
All told, the 5th-year veteran has run 143 times for 663 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, putting him 112 yards clear of Kansas City Chiefs rookie and former LSU standout Clyde Edwards-Helaire for the league lead in rushing yards. He is looking to record a 2nd straight NFL rushing title.
Henry and the Titans return to action on Sunday, when they travel to take on Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals at 1 pm ET at Paul Brown Stadium.
