As the College Football Playoff continues to sort itself out with teams ranked Nos. 2 through 4, Alabama is clearly in the cross-hairs of the debate over how teams rank behind Georgia.

ESPN commentator Paul Finebaum and reporter Heather Dinich weighed in on “Get Up” with their thoughts about Alabama needing to win out to make the Playoff.

Dinich said based on Playoff chairman Gary Barta’s comments, Alabama is a bit on shaky ground.

“Alabama might not be as secure at No. 2 as we might think,” she said. “The other part of that is if Alabama does lose to Georgia, we’ve all been talking about how it is a realistic possibility that they could get in as a 2-loss team that doesn’t win its championship, but can they? Based on Gary’s comments yesterday, I think it depends on what happens in the other Power 5 conference championship games. Because you can’t answer it in a vacuum.”

Dinich added that the fact Nos. 2 through 4 were discussed this week more than any other leads her to believe that Alabama might have some concerns.

Finebaum added, “The interpretation is, the games really don’t matter. Other than the games, he said, we think this team is better than that. I don’t think Alabama is getting in. Unless we see the greatest football game of all time, it goes into quadruple overtime and Georgia wins on some freak play.”

“I think if you lose 2 games in the SEC … even Gary Barta would be hard-pressed to put them in.”

Alabama closes with Arkansas and Auburn to finish the regular season before the SEC Championship Game against Georgia.
