Eli Gold returned to the booth for the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday night after a cancer battle kept him out of action last season.

Alabama Athletics shared a post on social media celebrating Gold’s return. Tide fans got to hear Gold’s iconic “Touchdowwwwn Alabama,” for the first time in more than a year.

Gold has called Alabama games since the 1988 season. Last season, Gold was unable to call games after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer. In his place, Chris Stewart called games for the Tide. About 3 months ago, Gold announced that he was cancer-free.

Stewart will still be around in 2023 to call road games as Gold will just stick to home games.

The Crimson Tide are putting on an impressive performance for Gold’s return. Currently, with around 10 minutes to go, the Tide are beating the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders by a score of 42-7. Gold will get the chance to call an exciting game next weekend as the Tide will play host to the Texas Longhorns.
