Taking care of their respective business on New Year’s Day, the Alabama Crimson Tide (12-0) and Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0) will battle in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday, January 11 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) updated their projection for this contest on Sunday, giving Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide a 62.5 percent chance to head back to Tuscaloosa with the trophy.

Here is how the network defines the FPI.

“The FPI is a measure of team strength meant to be the best predictor of a team’s success going forward for the rest of the season.

“FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule.

“Ratings and projections update daily. FPI data from seasons prior to 2019 may not be complete.”

Held in Arlington, Texas at AT&T Stadium, instead of its usual venue in Pasadena, California, Alabama reached this point by topping Brian Kelly’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 31-14, in the Rose Bowl.

Ryan Day’s Buckeyes, meanwhile, ran past Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers, 49-28, in the Sugar Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

January 11 will be the fifth all-time meeting between these storied programs, with the Crimson Tide holding a 3-1 edge. Ohio State prevailed the last time these two squared off, however, which came in the Sugar Bowl on January 1, 2015, a semifinal in the inaugural CFP.

Kicking at 8 p.m. ET, this game will be broadcast on ESPN.
