The Alabama Crimson Tide enter the 2019 campaign as the No. 2 team in the preseason AP Poll. Of course, we all know what happened in the title game vs. Clemson last year, when the Tide were handed a 44-16 defeat.

The Alabama secondary got picked apart last year, but is that a potential weak spot again this fall?

While speaking in Mobile on Monday night, ESPN college football studio host Matt Barrie said he thinks Nick Saban will have to keep an eye on his linebacking corps as a potential Achilles’ heel this fall (via AL.com):

“Last year it was the secondary, but I don’t think that’s going to be an issue this year,” Barrie said. “Probably the linebackers. If you look at their linebackers, they tend to send a lot of guys to the NFL, and Saban always reloads. Is there ever going to be a year where reloading hits a bit of a snag? It’s not going to be offensively, maybe offensive line early on trying to protect Tua. In the big games last year, he got hit a lot. Early on, watch them, because it could be something that manifests itself later in the year against teams like Clemson or Georgia.”

Alabama’s schedule is once again pretty back-loaded, so it’ll be interesting to see what sort of comments Saban makes about the linebackers as the season wears on.

Dylan Moses looks like a star, but other than him, there are some major question marks with that unit.
