With just 2 weeks remaining in the regular season, the College Football Playoff picture remains somewhat murky.

Georgia has certainly established itself to this point as the best team in the country but the other contenders still have hurdles to clear.

One question that continues to pop up is whether or not Alabama could still qualify for the CFP if it suffers a 2nd loss on the season to the Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game.

On Monday’s edition of “SEC This Morning” on the SEC Network, Peter Burns posed that question to ESPN.com senior college football writer Heather Dinich.

“100 percent, especially if it’s a close game and there continues to be chaos,” Dinich said. “I’ll bring back that Oregon-Utah game on Saturday. That’s the one that I’ve got my eye on because ESPN’s Football Power Index gives the Ducks less than a 40 percent chance to win that game, and if they do (lose), you’re guaranteed to have a Pac-12 champion with more than one loss.”

Dinich went on to address some of the scenarios that could unfold in the coming weeks.

“Here’s where it gets curious,” she said. “Oregon still has the best win in the country at Ohio State. If you have a 2-loss Alabama that does not win its conference championship, but the scenario unfolded as you mentioned it, and a 2-loss Pac-12 champion, how does the committee value those 2 teams?

“Gut reaction right here is that Alabama gets the nod ahead of Oregon, even without the conference championship based on the way those 2 teams have played. But it’s not a lock.”

For the Crimson Tide to have any shot, they need still need to win their final 2 games of the regular season, which includes a home against Arkansas on Saturday and a trip to rival Auburn on Nov. 27.
