Former Alabama defender learns extent of serious knee injury, per report
Washington’s Phidarian Mathis was carted off the field during Sunday’s win over Jacksonville.
It looked like a fairly significant knee injury at the time, and unfortunately that news was confirmed on Monday.
The former Alabama standout has a meniscus tear in his left knee and will be sidelined for the remainder of his rookie campaign.

Mathis was selected by the Commanders in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The 6-4, 312-pound defensive tackle racked up 129 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks during his four years in Tuscaloosa.
Washington will look to move to 2-0 on the season with a road game at Detroit on Sunday.
