Former Auburn commit, Alabama lineman, takes pleasure in trolling Gus Malzahn following Iron Bowl
Javion Cohen had a tumultuous recruitment that squared directly in the middle of the Iron Bowl.
The 6-foot-4 and 325-pound freshman from Phenix City, Alabama (Central) was a 4-star recruit by the 247Composite and a top-15 player in the state of Alabama. He signed with Alabama about 6 months after he committed to Auburn. But the end of his recruitment was when it really got busy.
Nearly a year ago, Cohen explained that the Tigers reportedly pulled their scholarship offer to Cohen because he took multiple visits to Alabama while being verbally committed to Auburn. However, Cohen said that isn’t the full story.
Based on the timing of his text messages to Gus Malzahn, Cohen notified Auburn that he was going to de-commit and then commit to Alabama on Dec. 18. Upon learning that, Auburn then pulled his scholarship.
Now, following Alabama’s win over, Cohen retweeted a GIF with Malzahn from 2019 doing one of his patented “boom” celebrations. But Cohen added, “*cohen goes on to watch auburn get embarrassed the following season.”
Cohen didn’t get in the game in the Iron Bowl, but has appeared in games against Tennessee, Mississippi State and Kentucky. This should be an issue to watch going forward as Cohen grows into a more prominent role for the Crimson Tide.

Seems like the kind of thing Saban frowns on.
Yep. And people get on social media and say stupid stuff. All the time. A time log of texts, tweets, decommiting, and pulling a scholly would be embarrassing for one or the other. Let’s just say this; everyone needs to let actions speak.
As a former coach I can say I never wanted anyone (player or coach) on my team that didn’t want to be there. Good luck to the young man at Alabama.
It really illustrates the character of the recruit to tie-up a scholarship from one institution but keep shopping for another another available scholarship at a rival. Who’s to say the rival couldn’t orchestrate this kind of unethical advantage multiple times a year causing a cascade of problems for all the recruits might follow his flaky chain reaction. Say what you mean and mean what you say. I hope he tries this in marriage proposals so we can see some great Gifs of uninvited guests at his wedding.
He doesn’t even play and will never play so who cares.
Weird thing to say. He’s been great in practice and runs with the 2s. He has a big chance at starting next season. Bama recruits some of the best O-lineman and turns them into NFL players.
@Aubie108: But he does recognize that 42 is a helluva lot more than 13.
RTR!
