Sad news to share as former Miami and FAU assistant coach Christ Vagotis has tragically died in a car accident. This news was first reported on by The Miami Herald.

The accident occurred in Reidsville, North Carolina. Vagotis was 75.

Vagotis played for Bear Bryant at Alabama and was coached by assistant Howard Schnellenberger during his time in Tuscaloosa. Once Schnellenberger took over at Miami, he hired Vagotis as an assistant.

“He was super intense about everything he did,” former Miami assistant Don Soldinger said of Vagotis. “He was unconventional, and would do all kinds of things to get the kids jacked up. He was also a great recruiter. He is a big reason Bernie Kosar ended up at UM.”

“Christ was a good upstanding man who loved his players and pushed them hard,” Schnellenberger added. “Everywhere I went, he went. He was a great coach and we won a lot of games together.”
