Gary Danielson, Verne Lundquist and Brad Nessler have been some of the iconic voices during the storied run of the “SEC on CBS.” On Saturday, leading into the SEC Championship, they reflected on the years together and their memories from the huge games in the SEC.

Or, as Adam Zucker put it, “the voices that have defined the ‘SEC on CBS’ for nearly 3 decades.”

The Alabama game against Georgia in the SEC Championship will be the final “SEC on CBS” game as the network will move to Big Ten games next season.

Brad Nessler joked that before he became the main voice on the “SEC on CBS” he watched Lundquist’s calls, and remarked, “That lucky dog! Why can’t I get some of those plays, but the last 6 years I’ve been fortunate enough to get some of those moments.”

Lundquist then complimented Nessler on his memorable call from last week’s Iron Bowl on the game-winning play when Nessler described it: “Bond. Isaiah Bond.”

Danielson poked in and joked that he couldn’t get a word in between Nessler and Lundquist, and how it was like being on the Lakers with Magic Johnson or LeBron James.

Nessler recalled how he first met Lundquist in the mid-1980s and how Lundquist has been a mentor and friend to Nessler since.

“When you come into a situation like that, you want to be the guy that replaced the guy that replaced the guy,” Nessler said. “You don’t want to be the guy that replaced a legend. You want to be 2 or 3 down the line. But I just thought, I’ve got to bring the same thing Verne brought, a fork and a knife and a glass of class, and I try to do it like he did.”

Danielson wrapped up the segment simple: “Nobody’s had it better than us.”
