Greg McElroy has taken on the highly debatable task of choosing the best program for each skill position in college football, and that includes running back since 2014, the College Football Playoff era.

Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Wisconsin and North Carolina were considered by the ESPN analyst.

The Crimson Tide lead the pack with 9 NFL draftees during the Playoff era, while Georgia has had 7 players drafted.

“They reign supreme in my eyes when it comes to the Running Back U. designation,” McElroy said of Alabama. “Najee Harris maybe as accomplished as anybody. Derrick Henry, excluding what he’s done in the NFL, but what he did alone in 2015, it was a season that I think everyone will remember as being one of the most dominant at that position in recent history.”

That beat out what McElroy recalled as the 1-2 punches at Georgia of Sony Michel and Nick Chubb, and James Cool and Zamir White. There’s also D’Andre Swift, Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley.

“That right there, that collection of 8 guys pretty dang special, and can go with anybody in college football in the last handful of years,” he said.
