ESPN commentator Greg McElroy on the “Always College Football” podcast broke down this weekend’s Alabama vs Tennessee match-up and the hostile environment that the Tide will be walking into.

No. 3 Alabama will travel to No. 6 Tennessee in what looks to be the biggest match up of the season so far.

On Saturday against Texas A&M, McElroy said Alabama had an “uncharacteristically sloppy” game filled with turnovers and missed field goals.

“The scary thing is I think Jalen Milroe had 2 interceptions dropped, and could have been worse, perhaps,” he said.

McElroy addressed that the key difference is who is able to play for Alabama.

Bryce Young had an injury in Week 5 against Arkansas and hasn’t played since. McElroy also brought up Jahmyr Gibbs as the possible “bell cow back”, skill players who are capable of taking on a large volume of carries and succeeding, to help Young if he’s not 100%.

“Consider Tennessee’s tempo, it might help Alabama to play a little more ball control and take the air out of the ball,” he said. “If they have a sloppy performance like they did last week, on the road, it’s going to be very difficult to overcome those mistakes to get the victory.”

Missed field goals, turnovers and penalties all made the list of what McElroy thinks will impact this weekend’s game. The Tide has struggled with road games and had a record setting day of 15 penalties against Texas in Austin.

The Tide has won the last 15 games in the rivalry that they’ve fully controlled since their last loss in 2006, but this looks to be the most competitive game in quite a long time.
