Greg McElroy is very familiar with the Alabama-LSU rivalry as he was 1-1 in the series, throwing for 499 yards and 4 touchdowns in the game.
Now, as an analyst and broadcaster for ESPN, he is making his prediction in many big games throughout the season.
On the Always College Football show, McElroy thinks his alma mater is going to get the big win in Baton Rouge.
“LSU has won 15 straight night games at Tiger Stadium, and LSU is 17-1 at home under Brian Kelly,” McElroy said. “Alabama is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 trips to Baton Rouge. I will take Alabama. I think their defense is improving significantly. Alabama’s secondary vs LSU’s wide receivers and Garrett Nussmeier at quarterback. I think Garrett Nussmeier might throw an interception or two, and I think Alabama’s rushing attack is what ultimately tips the scales in its favor.”
Both of these teams enter the game at 6-2, and the loser would be all but eliminated from making the College Football Playoff. The Crimson Tide are coming off their most complete game 2 weeks ago, as they defeated Missouri 34-0. The rushing attack that McElroy talked about for Alabama rushed for 271 yards and 4 touchdowns.
While Alabama is coming off its best performance, LSU is coming off its most frustrating game of the year.
The Tigers were up 17-7 at the half against Texas A&M, and Nussmeier ended up throwing for 405 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, he also threw 3 interceptions, while the special teams was an issue with 2 missed field goals.
This game is big regardless of implications, but with this being a CFP eliminator, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
