Greg McElroy took the College Football Playoff committee to task for its latest rankings.

He applauded the committee for “doing the right thing” and keeping Georgia at No. 1, and McElroy believes Georgia has the better resume, anyway.

He also believes Georgia, Michigan and TCU should be all in the Playoff regardless about what happens this weekend, short of a 59-0 drubbing.

But he also addressed the so-called conspiracy theory that Southern Cal should get in regardless of what happens this weekend. He thinks that’s bonkers.

To give life to the conspiracy theory, McElroy said fans could use the 12-game argument that USC is among the best 4 teams in America.

As for Alabama, McElroy believes Alabama fans are understandably frustrated given what happened in 2016 when Ohio State was 11-1, Penn State had 2 losses, and despite a win over Ohio State was left out.

“The same thing that you benefitted from a couple years ago is now being used against you,” McElroy said. “It’s a difficult leg to stand on if you’re trying to make a case on your behalf.”

Similarly, McElroy took the committee to task about Clemson dropping just one spot this week after a loss to South Carolina, whereas Tennessee fell 5 spots when the Vols lost on the road, compared to Clemson being at home.

“To me seems a little bit ridiculous,” he said, and added that the Tigers should have dropped significantly. And he questioned what the committee sees in Clemson, outside of the track record. Because the Tigers to McElroy have been rated higher than they should be all season.
