5-star 2021 Alabama signee Ga’Quincy McKinstry played on both sides of the ball for Pinson Valley High School in Alabama, lining up at both defensive back and receiver. He even returned kicks and punts at times.

That versatility is a big part of what makes him a star, even if he’ll likely focus on the defensive side of the ball with the Crimson Tide.

Over the weekend, McKinstry was named Alabama’s Mr. Football for the 2020 season. His head coach had nothing but praise for his abilities (via AL.com):

“He’s very deserving of the award,” Pinson Valley head coach Sam Shade said. “Obviously, he’s a guy who played on both sides of the ball. We frankly couldn’t afford for him not to be on the field. He made things happen for us. He even did some things for us in the return game at times when we put him back there.”

Per the 247Sports composite rankings, McKinstry is the No. 23 overall prospect in the 2021 class. He’s the No. 1 cornerback and the No. 1 overall recruit from the state of Alabama.

Will we see him returning kicks and potentially getting some work on offense during his time in Tuscaloosa? Or, will he stay focused solely on defense? We’ll find out starting this spring!
