Alabama is no stranger to the top spot in preseason polls.
Since 2010, the Crimson Tide have been the No. 1 squad in the AP Poll heading into a season, but that hasn’t been a good thing.
In 2010, 2013 and 2016, the Crimson Tide have earned the No. 1 spot heading into a season and have won exactly zero titles in those three years (don’t feel too bad, though — they’ve obviously won four since 2009).
In fact, no preseason No. 1 team has hoisted the title trophy since 2004, when the USC Trojans made it from preseason No. 1 to the top spot in the final poll:

The Crimson Tide were the No. 1 team in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll, so it wouldn’t be too surprising to see them in the top spot in today’s AP Poll.
