Jahleel Billingsley had a winding road as a college player, as he started his career at Alabama, and then transferred to Texas, before he left the Longhorns some 8 months ago.
Now Billingsley is continuing his career in the Canadian Football League, according to a report from Matt Zenitz, who reported that Billingsley is set to sign with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL. He’s expected to play wide receiver there and also factor in as a kick returner.
Billingsley was a 4-star recruit from the class of 2019 when he signed with Alabama. During 3 seasons, Billingsley played in 9 games in 2019, and later made 35 catches for 543 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2020 and 2021.
Billingsley repeatedly drew the ire of Nick Saban, who said he did not take advantage of opportunities. At Texas, he was suspended for 6 games for an incident that happened at Alabama, according to coach Steve Sarkisian. He played in 4 games, but made just 3 catches for 38 yards.
After Texas, Billingsley was drafted in the XFL Rookie Draft by the San Antonio Brahmas.
Nick Saban had a message for everyone in the Alabama program after being asked about tight end Jahleel Billingsley:
