Jalen Hurts congratulated former Alabama teammate, Arkansas State QB Layne Hatcher on big game
Current Arkansas State quarterback Layne Hatcher threw for 440 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 50-43 win over Troy in his first start of the season. Hatcher replaced starting quarterback Logan Bonner, who was lost for the season due to a thumb injury. Hatcher brings a pedigree, having been the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Arkansas in 2017.
That is only half the story.
Former Alabama quarterback and current Oklahoma Sooner reached out to Hatcher via text on the victory. Hurts and Hatcher were close during there time in Tuscaloosa. Hurts has been lighting it up for the Sooners with 17 total touchdowns to one interception while leading Oklahoma to a 4-0 start. It also looks like he is one of the classier players in all of college football with is reach out here and the way he handled his last season at Alabama with Tua Tagovailoa becoming the starting quarterback.
A-State QB Layne Hatcher said Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts, who Hatcher is close with from playing at Alabama, texted him after his big debut Sat. night against Troy.
"Just said he was happy for me and stay hungry and don't settle, so it was a cool experience."
