Jameson Williams’ knee injury during the 2nd quarter of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Georgia on Monday served as a major blow to the Crimson Tide offense. While it wasn’t the primary reason why the Tide fell to the Bulldogs in Indianapolis, the loss of their top wide receiver couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Williams was eventually shown on the ESPN broadcast walking back to the locker room under his own power, later returning to the sideline to support his teammates in the 2nd half moments after being ruled out of the contest. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, we now know the prognosis of the injury:

The good news is that the injury isn’t expected to affect Williams’ physical abilities once he recovers from surgery. He’ll obviously be unable to participate in the combine and other activities leading up to the NFL Draft in late April in Las Vegas, but his play on the field has already positioned him as a 1st-round pick.

In his 1st, and likely only, season at Alabama, he made 79 catches for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns.
