Alabama running back Jerome Ford enters NCAA transfer portal
Alabama fans were already hoping that Najee Harris would return for his senior season in Tuscaloosa but now they may really need the junior to return to school in 2020 as one of the Crimson Tide’s young running backs is considering leaving Nick Saban’s program.
Redshirt freshman running back Jerome Ford has entered the NCAA transfer portal following his second season with the Tide. This news was first reported by Matt Zenitz of AL.com.
It should be noted that just because a player has entered the NCAA transfer portal does not mean they cannot return to their current team. This step simply allows for players to be contacted by other schools regarding a potential transfer.
Ford redshirted his first season on campus after only appearing in four games in 2018. Ford again appeared in four games this season, making one start among his four appearances. So far in his career, Ford has 151 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
The Florida native was considered one of the top tailbacks in the state of Florida and a four-star prospect when he signed with Alabama in the 2018 recruiting cycle.
He obviously knows Najee is coming back and that Trey Sanders is healthy.
Even if Najee left, Ford would still be behind Robinson and Sanders next year.
The writing is in the wall for ford… With Sanders Back and the RB haul from this year he will need to move on to get playing time.. I wish him the best with whatever he decides.
Najee could declare and Ford leaving still wont make any Bama fan anxious as you were trying to infer. Alabama has alot of running backs and Ford was #4 on the chart this year, and that’s not counting Sanders who was injured.
Good luck to this kid.
The RB group is stacked at Alabama for the next couple of years. Ford showed some good stuff, but I’ve heard his work ethic is not great. Best of luck to this young man.
Hey…I can’t blame him for transferring. No carries=no potential NFL career. but…at least he has been in the “process’ for a while and that in itself prepares him for success…mentally, emotionally & physically. I wish him success in the future.
He is definitely better for having played at Bama
That’s not completely accurate. Josh Jacobs didn’t really see a ton of action and now is the man in Oakland, where Damian Harrison has yet to see the field. A quality back without a ton of miles is very attractive at the next level which is why the Titans got a steal with Derrick Henry
