Joel Klatt is aware of all of the mistakes Alabama suffered on Saturday in its narrow win over Texas A&M. But regardless of the turnovers and missed field goals, the Crimson Tide prevailed.

“Overall sloppiness, and I think Nick Saban realized it was going to be going that way,” Klatt said on his podcast on Monday. “But I’m not going to sit here and lob the grenades because you know what, they won the game. So you take away a Heisman Trophy winner from Alabama, you say you’re going to turn the ball over 4 times, miss 2 field goals in a conference game. … You’ll be like, ‘They might lose this one.’ But they didn’t, but they didn’t.”

“I’m going to give Alabama props, because they won, essentially a prize fight with 1 hand tied behind their back,” Klatt said.

Klatt said it’s not easy to do, and there aren’t many teams in the country who could do it. Klatt added that it was impressive that Alabama could run the ball 51 times, and still have success even though Texas A&M knew it was coming.

Klatt also credited Bill O’Brien, and he noted that O’Brien was like other successful play callers who don’t get bored with the simplicity of success. O’Brien didn’t get bored taking a profit, Klatt said.
