Joel Klatt addressed Tyler Buchner’s arrival in Tuscaloosa and what it means for Alabama’s QB situation moving forward.

In a recent segment, Klatt pointed out a couple of (potentially) concerning realities around Alabama’s quarterback room. He said Buchner’s transfer indicates that incumbents Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson may have struggled more than anticipated throughout spring ball.

“The first thing that this transfer communicates is that nobody took control of that job in the spring,” Klatt said. “So when you’re looking at Ty Simpson and Jalen Milroe, who were competing in the spring for Alabama, there were clearly some concerns within the program about the direction or the play of those quarterbacks during spring.”

However, Klatt is not pushing the panic button on Alabama in 2023. He said he will still have the Tide in his top 5 going into this upcoming season.

“Am I concerned? No. The answer is an emphatic ‘no,’ Klatt said. “Am I concerned about Alabama? No. Are they going to start in my top 5? Yes. Why? Because they’re Alabama. Because Nick Saban is still there. Because they’ve recruited as good as anybody including Georgia over the last 5 years.

“When you look at the composite of what the roster is, they’re going to be just fine.”
