Joel Klatt took an opportunity to weigh in on the Alabama coordinator hires.

The FOX Sports analyst said he was surprised about Tommy Rees because he figured Rees was “ultra committed” to Notre Dame.

“But this is a great opportunity for Tommy Rees, a great opportunity,” Klatt said. “Look at the lineage of Alabama offensive coordinators, and what they’ve gone on to do. So this is a no-brainer for him.”

Rees will put himself in the Alabama offense, and will learn a lot, Klatt said.

“The bottom line is I’m going to give Nick Saban the benefit of the doubt,” Klatt said. “… Bama fans, do you not trust Nick Saban, do you think you know better? I think many of you are trusting him as I am, and I’m going to stand by that.”

Klatt then moved to the defense, and said it should have been better in 2022, and he pointed out that Georgia has exceeded Alabama defensively.

Klatt sees Steele as an older, veteran guy to take the Alabama defense to a level it hasn’t reached recently.
