John Metchie III reflects on Alabama’s last win over Ole Miss, preparing to face Lane Kiffin again

John Metchie III knows what to expect when Alabama plays Ole Miss on Saturday. That’s because the junior wide receiver played in the matchup between the teams last year.
On Oct. 10, 2020, the Crimson Tide outlasted the Rebels for a 63-48 win in Oxford, as Metchie contributed 4 receptions for 75 yards. And as he told “The Next Round” this week, he enjoyed playing in such a high-scoring contest.
“I think because it was a shootout,” Metchie said. “It was a big offensive game, it was a shootout between both teams. And just being a receiver and an offensive player, you kind of just love games like that.”
There’s a good chance it’s a similar type of game this year. And while Alabama is the No. 1 team in the country and again the favorite, Ole Miss could be competitive. Especially because former Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin is again leading the Rebels, which Metchie thinks helps the opponent.
“Definitely, I definitely think it’s an advantage, especially because him being in the program, knowing how the program is run,” Metchie said. “I definitely think that gives him an advantage over other coaches that haven’t been in the program.”

Metchie is off to a solid start in 2021, as he has 24 catches for 240 yards and 1 touchdown while helping Alabama win each of its first 4 games. He’ll likely have an opportunity to put up some big numbers against Ole Miss.
The Crimson Tide and the Rebels are set to kick off on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
