Kalen DeBoer credits his team after close win over South Carolina: ‘I’m proud of these guys’
Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama Crimson Tide were involved in another tight SEC game in Week 7.
Unlike Week 6, however, the Tide came out on top in this win. The Tide escaped with a 27-25 victory over South Carolina, even as a last-second onside kick made things interesting.
Of course, the Tide fell at Vanderbilt last weekend, so this game was crucial for the team’s College Football Playoff hopes. After the game, DeBoer spoke highly of his team for battling and securing the victory.
“There’s just so many times — we talk about finding a way to win,” DeBoer explained. “The ball wasn’t bouncing our way but when we find a way to win when your back is against the wall like it was, even on the last drive there, I’m proud of these guys.”

Alabama opened the scoring against South Carolina but managed to have just a 14-12 lead at halftime. The Gamecocks were the only team to score in the 3rd, meaning the team went into the final quarter with a 19-14 lead. However, Jalen Milroe would find the end zone on a 7-yard run to put the Tide back on top by a point.
Then, with just under 2 minutes to play, Germie Bernard got open for a 34-yard TD to put the team up by 8.
The Gamecocks marched down the field to score, but the 2-point conversion failed, leaving the team in a 2-point deficit. A successful onside kick meant the Gamecocks had another chance, but Alabama’s Domani Jackson secured an INT to ice the game.
The Tide’s next test will be in Week 8 against the Tennessee Volunteers.
