Kalen DeBoer is reportedly closing in on a new offensive line coach for Alabama.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Crimson Tide are expected to hire veteran offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic. Originally, DeBoer had brought Scott Huff with him from Washington, but Huff has left Tuscaloosa to join Ryan Grubb on the Seattle Seahawks coaching staff.

Kapilovic had accepted a job to coach the OL at Baylor but was most recently a piece of Mel Tucker’s Michigan State staff from 2020-23.

Kapilovic’s coaching career spans 30 years with stops at Kansas, Alabama State, Missouri State, Southern Miss and North Carolina before joining Tucker at Colorado in 2019. He would follow Tucker to Michigan State in 2020 and served as the OL coach and run game coordinator all 4 seasons in East Lansing and added the role of assistant head coach in 2021.

Kapilovic was well-regarded for recruiting some key offensive line pieces to Michigan State. Now, he will be trusted to help improve and develop the offensive line in Tuscaloosa.
