Kalen DeBoer says there’s more to come after Alabama blasts LSU

Kalen DeBoer said after a 42-13 win over LSU in Death Valley that Alabama is not yet done.

The 11th-ranked Crimson Tide had lost back-to-back road games prior to Saturday night in Baton Rouge. They were stunned by Vanderbilt last month and then shut down by Tennessee 2 weeks later. Those losses put Alabama’s hopes of reaching the College Football Playoff on the razor’s edge. A week 11 matchup with the 15th-ranked Tigers was a must-have game.

Alabama controlled it from the jump.

“Started fast. I just felt all week long there was a sense of confidence that we were developing,” DeBoer told ESPN’s Holly Rowe on the field after the game. “Every day, we got better. Thought the way that we came out, and the little plays at the beginning, the little things led to what you see on the scoreboard.”

But DeBoer said he’s only going to let his team enjoy the result for seconds before shifting the attention forward.

Alabama has a game against FCS Mercer on Nov. 16. Then it travels to Norman to face Oklahoma before closing out the season with the Iron Bowl at home.

It’s unclear how the race for spots in the SEC Championship Game will shake out — Alabama is 1 of 8 teams in the league with 2 or fewer conference losses right now — but if Alabama handles business over these last 3 weeks, the Tide will be playing in the CFP.

“We’re going to enjoy it for about 2 seconds here. We know we’ve got a lot left in the month of November here to reach our goals,” DeBoer said. “It was another step. I think a couple weeks ago we took one step and (tonight) we took another. We’re understanding how important the process is.

“We’ve just got to keep getting better. There’s more left out there.”
