Kalen DeBoer shares praise for under-the-radar WR ahead of Week 2 matchup
Kalen DeBoer spoke highly of an under-the-radar wide receiver during his appearance on the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday.
DeBoer shared some glowing praise for redshirt freshman wide receiver Cole Adams and said he expects to see more out of him in the coming weeks.
“He knows where to be, he’s got a good feel of how to be quarterback-friendly and be in the right place in the right time,” DeBoer said. “He takes coaching very well. He’s made plays in practice, in particular. I think he’ll have some big games here this fall when he gets targeted when we throw the ball more than we did on Saturday.
“Really pleased with him. Good mix of quickness and a good burst. Decent speed. Runs solid routes that the quarterbacks can count on where he’s going to be.”

Adams was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2023 out of Owasso, Oklahoma. He was the No. 301 overall player in the class, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
Adams played sparingly as a true freshman last season, making both of his first-career catches against Chattanooga. He didn’t record a catch in Alabama’s Week 1 win over Western Kentucky, but he did return 5 punts for 42 yards in that contest.
With other incoming receivers like Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard, there hasn’t been much hype for Adams this offseason — at least in the passing game. But if DeBoer is to be believed, his usage could be set to increase in the coming weeks.
Alabama will face South Florida in Week 2.
