Kane Wommack met with reporters in Tuscaloosa on Monday afternoon to discuss Alabama’s loss to Vanderbilt and to preview this week’s matchup against South Carolina.

Wommack, who is in his first season as Alabama’s defensive coordinator, is expecting a much better effort on Saturday vs. the Gamecocks. In his press conference on Monday, Wommack predicted the Tide would play with a higher “level of urgency” in Week 7.

“I think we’re gonna play with a level of urgency that our fans will appreciate, and a response that we all expect for Alabama to have on defense going into this week,” Wommack said.

A good response is certainly necessary after Alabama’s 40-35 loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday. The Commodores were especially effective on 3rd down — 12-of-18 — which allowed them to build and maintain a multi-score lead over the Crimson Tide into the second half.

Alabama’s offense will also be looking for a better performance on Saturday vs. South Carolina, particularly from a ball-security perspective. Vanderbilt converted 2 Alabama giveaways into 13 crucial points on Saturday.

Alabama is 11-4 all-time against South Carolina. The Gamecocks have not won in Tuscaloosa since 2004.

Kickoff on Saturday is set for 12 p.m. ET.
